Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy?
Exercise during pregnancy is very important for the women. It maintains the health, boosts the energy, makes the muscles flexible, removes stress & helps during the delivery.
Historically pregnant women were not allowed to move and were forced to sit in one place. Research had found out that by doing this the pregnant women had difficulty in delivering the baby because their muscles have become stiff on not having any movement. On the hand by doing some exercise, the muscles were relaxed & making it easier for the women during the delivery time. Even this fact is still unaccepted by most pregnant women.
Exercise always proved beneficial for people at any age or stage. It strengthens the muscles, loose weight & relived stress from the body. For those pregnant women, doing 20 minutes of exercise daily will do wonders for them like hormone balance, easier constipation, stress relief & lower the chances of getting morning sickness.
The beautiful period in a woman’s life is at the time of pregnancy with a wonderful feeling that there is life growing within her body. But to keep this wonderful period, it is also important to take proper care of the body by eating a healthy diet & doing exercise. Regular exercise makes the pregnant women be in a good physical condition & mentally prepared to confidently deliver a healthy baby with out any labor pains.
Before starting the exercises, one should consult their family doctor on which exercises to perform during a particular period. Since doing exercises without the consult of doctor may lead to risk for the mother and the unborn child. One should not increase the amount of exercise from the beginning day itself. A small walk of 5 minutes can have done initially & then gradually increase the time. It depends upon the stamina one has to get the body moving at that time. So never overdo the exercises.
At certain stages of pregnancy, one can do some aerobic exercises like stationary cycling, water exercises or go of for a swim. Few yoga exercises especially for pregnant women can also be performed. Few stretching & breathing techniques of yoga are tailored made to help pregnant women a lot.
Another type of exercise that can be done by pregnant women is the kegels, it strengthens the pelvic floor muscles that help in reducing the labor pain.
